There are excellent walks, places to cycle, fly kites...and you can enjoy walking in the woods and fields at Moorleaze, feeding the carp in the lower lake, kicking a ball around, looking for hares or deer, watch the buzzards - including Eric,who's often out the front - owls, pheasants, partridge and so forth. Of course there's also plenty of pubs nearby!

Longleat fully deserves its outstanding reputation: the safari park, a magnificent house, mazes, shows - it's got it all. Most guests spend several days there, using the "passports" available for sale from Moorleaze and elsewhere. Totally recommended!

The Fleet Air Museum at Yeovilton is well worth a visit. As well as loads of planes, there is a terrific aircraft carrier simulator. Nearby is the Haynes Motor Museum - great for "petrol-heads" of all ages!

The incomparable Stourhead Gardens - magnificent at any time of year.
